We had been to York before and always by train and wanted somewhere to stay that was romantic but not to far away from York city center. I did a little research and came up with the Carlton House. it was everything we expected and more. We arrived and got to chose between two beautifully decorated and clean rooms. We chose room 14 up in the rafters and it was very romantic. the view from the window of all the tall old house was lovely, the bathroom was up to date and very clean. They had a flat screen telly with many channels which was great to keep my fella quiet while i was getting ready. They had tea making facilities, little cookies and complimentary bottled water which i thought was brilliant. We were given a map by the gentleman running the hotel and were told that if we wanted a meal out we may want to book on a Saturday night and he marked out on the map some recommended restaurants, which i thought was very good. We did in fact miss the first breakfast as we had been out rather late in york on the Saturday night but no one said i word about it, we tried the breakfast nice and early the following morning and it was gorgeous, especially the sausages!!!! The day we were checking out we were even offered for the hotel to look after our bags if we wanted more time in York without carrying everything around with us, which i thought was very thoughtful. We arrived home and i started to unpack my belongings and suddenly realized that i had left my favorite cardigan in the wardrobe, i called them straight away and yes it had been left. I offered to send them some money if they could post it out to me and they said they would post it but no need to send any money as it wouldn't be much. I was so thankful and thought it was really very kind of them. We had a really lovely stay and the people running the place are professional and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
