I am writing to complain about the prince of wales hotel southport,the whole experience of our two night break there ,for my wifes birthday and to attend the flower show was a complete shambles, As we arrived at the hotel front by car there was a wedding in progress and the car park was full we were stuck outside the hotel front and had no help from the staff present, with our luggage, my wife took both the cases to check in and had to wait in a queue for ten minutes to be attended to, I meanwhile had managed to extricate the car and then managed to park the car three streets away, at a cost of £2.80, the room is supposed to be an "executive room" the "mountbatten suite", it was crumbling to bits the paint work and decor is frankly terrible to see, the bathroom had no shower, only a bath, and the toilet had a large piece of fecal matter lying in the bottom of the bowl ,left by a previous guest,the fecal matter would not flush away and I had to phone for a porter to come and use a plunger to remove it! the remte control wouldnent work and the room was cold and we asked how to turn up the heating we were told its summer and its switched off"
The breakfast next day was a near riot by some guests because there was not enough staff to cope with the wedding party guests and we had to wait twenty minutes to be allowed into the breakfast room, there we found the tables although empty had not been cleared and all the guests had to clear their own. there were then no plates to put any food on, and no bread /toast tea etc for a considerable time.
the entertainment in the hotel is non existent and the dust and dirt and general ambience of the hotel is a disgrace,the staff seem totally switched off and miserable,then to add insult to injury we were charged £4 to park in the car park!
I suggest someone from management checks out the hotel, god knows how it got one star let alone three, I think too actually charge any one to stay there is a joke.
