we stayed at this hotel last October, food, staff and entertainment first class.

We had four nights in this hotel, we will not be going back. The room 115 was cramped and shabby and the wash basin was in the room, so there was no privacy whist washing. The shower and toiletwere ok,but space had been taken of the room to allow for these. The shaving light did not work, and after being reported twice was never fixed. This is the first hotel i have ever stayed in that gave you half a small roll with your soup, meager portions of food, and even when you asked, you did not get more. The stairs leading down from room 115 to reception were gloomy and due to lack of a light,in my opinion, dangerous. On the good side when you got in bed it was comfortable.

We went to this hotel with G Line coach tours for a tinsel and turkey break 16/11/09 to 20/11/09 staying in room 104.The room was a good size, but the bathroom was the size of a cupboard with no soap dish or shelf and no towel rail as someone had used it to get up of the toilet and pulled it off the wall. The wash basin was in the main room (bedroom) the mirror behind the washbasin was much to low down for shaving as the top of the mirror was only just above my navel. Which meant having to kneel down to shave, and at the age of 70 this is not desirable. the light above the mirror constantly flickered on and off, this was fixed after i reported it. the shelf at the side of the washbasin was coming off the wall due to too short wall plugs having been used. They only extended into the plaster and not the brickwork, which is probably why the towel rail in the bathroom came off the wall. The bed was clean and comfortable. however when i dropped some coins on the floor i had to move the beds to look for them, under the beds I found what looked like a caster oil capsule, two pills and a plastic medicine measuring cup that a previous guest had dropped, and what looked like crumbs. This spoiled what on entering looked like a clean room. The shelf and the towel rail remained unresolved after reporting them. Not wanting to be always complaining I didn't report the litter under the beds. This brings me to the food, the staff in the dining room were very friendly, the food was very good and looked and tasted home made, however it is the first time I have ever been served halve of a small bread roll with my soup, the waitress said to speak to the Chef, I didn't bother. This was also the first time we didn't get a lunch on a Tinsel & Turkey Christmas day or Boxing Day, and paid £60 per person more than on other Tinsel & Turkey Breaks. The entertainment was first class, much better in my opinion than on our four cruises for people that don't do cruises.

Firstly, the Manager is Ron, not Gemma. I have to say, I was somewhat surprised by the 1st review as we have visited Gemma at both the Royal Oak & Blacksmiths many times over the past 7 yrs, we tend to follow her as she is friendly & has always taken the time to get to know her guests, she always goes out of her way to make sure we have a pleasant time.
We went to Rivelyn, last weekend & okay its somewhat different to the aforementioned but never the less it was very clean, the staff were friendly, particularally Jason in the restaurant. The food was limited to three or four choices a night but it was homemade & v nice (I note Peter has moved on with Gemma which was a pleasant surprise) & the entertainment was fun! The weekend was very enjoyable & affordable, we will return in the near future! A huge thank you to Ron, Gemma & all the team!

We went to the Rivelyn in Feb 2008 on a Bowens tour. We found the staff very friendly, the food was all homemade & very tasty (however the choices are limited) and the bedroom was comfortable, a good size & very clean with some Sky channels. The majority of this hotel has been refurbished within the last couple of months and it shows the bar has live Sky sports and real hops and the ballroom was cozy and fun!

The frontage is a bit drab, but otherwise a very pleasant hotel which is very affordable and within easy access to town. We would return and bring our friends! I would use the word Bargin when describing the hotel!!
