Reviews of Cygnet Hotel
January 2, 2008
My parents returned from the Cygnet Hotel, where they'd spent a long weekend with friends. I said I'd post their review as they're not too internet savvy.
On the positive side - they said the food was excellent, no gripes there.
They were provided with a free bar for a couple of hours, with 'local drinks' being offered free. These drinks were quite palatable. The Hotel was clean.
Not so positive - the Hotel was described as being in a 'tired' condition with many areas being long overdue for refurbishment.
The hot water to rooms was almost non-existent. Guests were consequently not able to wash properly, shave or shower.
The Proprietors handling of guests complaints on the water problem was abysmal. He concocted a string of ludicrous excuses as to why there was never an adequate supply of hot water, (it was obvious that the system just wasn't up to the job of supplying the size of premises), and when challenged on his lame excuses the Proprietor was totally dismissive. His attitude was one of smug contempt and "I've already got your money so I don't care!"
I'd stress that he wasn't rude or abusive to guests, just wore a smirk while insisting that the water would be warm in 10 or 20 minutes, (no matter what time of the day it was), and occasionally interjecting that he'd be glad when he got on his flight to Tenerife in a few days time. At one point there were 11 separate guests queuing at reception to complain about the lack of hot water. Unlike other Hoteliers he made no apparent attempts to interact with guests at any time, giving lie to the claims of the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere described in various listings, (although the claim that the stay would be memorable was accurate - they're still trying to forget their break).
This experience did marr their visit to IOW, they phoned me during their stay to tell me how bad the Hotel was and were annoyed for days after returning.
The Cygnet has been renamed the Lame Duck and the Geordie owner is now referred to as Basil, (although with no affection). - Without Prejudice -
