My husband & I took my two elderley sisters for 4 days, the rooms were clean, view superb, food was good and staff second to none.
Superb entertainment. What do people want for a 2 star.
If you want luxury pay luxury prices.

the hotel itself is situated right where you would want it to be a short walk from the centre of town and right opposite the beach, on the plus side the staff were excellent and friendly as was the food but the hotel itself is really run down and tired looking the carpets throught were filthy and our bathroom was tiny and 30 years out of date we wont be going back

This was my first holiday at a Shearings Hotel and possibly my last.
Although the staff and food were excellent the accomodation was awful, no heat in the bathroom (it was like a fridge) there was no room in the bathroom for a handbasin, that was in the bedroom.
In my opinion the hotel wants a bomb under it.

The hotel is in a great location on the sea front and a short walk to the town centre. The hotel however has seen better days and is in need of complete refurbishment. The exterior looks extremely tired .The rooms are small with wallpaper peeling off the walls and the bathroom had no natural light and was the size of a broom cupboard. The staff were good with the exception of the bar staff who were slow and offhand . The food was very reasonable albeit small portions but if you wanted a drink with your meal forget it. Ours arrived when we wee eating our dessert. ridiculous. Until the hotel has been redecoration this one probably to avoid.
