just got back from Southleigh, it was good value for the money, Mick went out of his way to make it a good week for our small party, food nice room very warm and drinks cheap.no soap in rooms so need to take it with you.

well i don't know where to start. To be fair the owner Mick was a very hard working man, as were all his family who seemed to have very old fashioned values. They were all introduced when you arrived and stood outside like the staff in upstairs downstairs as you drove away in your coach, waving you off.
Lovely people, but will try every trick in the book to obtain money from you, they even charged our coach driver a fiver a night to park up.On a personal note i think they try to do too much which doesn't leave them much time to clean or decorate.
I did enjoy my stay as did my fellow travellers but only because they saw the funny side of the state of the rooms.
The food was ok as was the service
but the decor and dust did let them down. Please don.t let me put you off going, you will have a good laugh but i just wish Mick would spend a few bob doing the rooms up. I don't think he's as daft as he looks, but how he keeps working like he does i don't know. Won't go back but did meet some lovly folk there. It's an eye opener. Try it and see

This hotel is spoiled by the meaness of the food. Wafer thin meat, cheapest food the wholesaler supplies. no choice at breakfast i.e.if you would prefer a boiled or scrambled egg you have no chance. We inadvertantly stayed twice, by booking a mystery trip. Never again.

On the plus side .... a very warm and friendly welcome, the owners go that extra mile and sort any requests you may have ASAP.
However ..... the food on the first night was appalling (can't say I've ever experienced gravy on battered chicken!) Almost everything was salty, pre packed and processed and the portion sizes were small. Rooms were only surface clean. We had to move a bed away from the window and the carpet underneath was thick with dust! Bearing in mind this was the start of the season, surely rooms should be thoroughly cleaned whilst they are closed? Did wonders for my asthma!!
Its a shame this hotel lets itself down with poor cleanliness and food because the owners are lovely hardworking people.

This B&B was great value for money and we will definitely be using it again. Very friendly owners that accommodated our every need.Rooms were warm, beds were clean and comfortable and food was plentiful. I have stayed in dearer accommodation but rate this one for friendliness far more. definately recommended to all.

I went to the hotel with my mother-in-law (in her 70's) and my sister-in-law (we are both in our 40's) for a weekend coach break with Travelstyle. We saw the "Fawlty Towers" review before we went, but were interested in the day trips, so plucked up the courage and booked it.... and i am glad we did!
We had a great time! Mick and Carol (the owners) bent over backwards to rectify any problems we had.
My sister-in-law and i shared a room and we actually changed rooms as our original room was on the ground floor and there were a less able couple on the top floor, so we swapped rooms with them for their comfort.
When we got to our new room, we asked for more pillows and a hairdryer - they were bought to us immediatly! We also asked for the tea and coffee to be replenished as the other couple had used them, and it was done by the time we went back upstairs after our evening in the bar.
Incidentally, the bvar prices were pretty resonable as we were drinking shorts and wine, but i did think it was a little expensive for beer and cider as it was from cans and at £1.99 per can, personally, i thought it was a little expensive. BUT £1.99 for spirits and wine, I thought was reasonable. I asked if it was possible if a bottle of diet lemonade would be too troublesome to get for the weekend.... and it wasnt! Just one example of how well Mick and Carol looked after their guests!
On the first morning I went to have a shower and it was spitting out water at a pathetic rate! I spoke with Mick as we entered breakfast (which was a little limited... but plentiful with toast, juice and cereals available to help yourselves with followed by a cooked breakfast) and he said he would sort ot out for us. By the time we got back from our day trip, it was sorted and like new! there was planty of hot water and the shower was lovely!
The entertainment was funny! Mick's alter ego the first night and everyone enjoyed themselves, and another chap on the second night... also very good! there was a longe so if you didnt want to rock the night away, you could quite happily play cards as we did. The drinks were even bought to us! Another example of their generosity and helpfulness. The lounge furniture was very comfortable. It could have done with a good clean to be fair, but it is cream, so it is bound to show the marks!
The beds were comfy and the bedding clean; a little old and could probably do with new stuff to be honest, but clean, the towels provided were also clean.
NOW FOR THE DOWN SIDE......
The food on the first night was appalling! I mean really, really appalling!! BUT that improved dramaticall! The rest of our stay the food was lovely! I even commented to Mick how nice the food was on a couple of occasions... it was a million miles from the first nights offerings!
But what really put a dampener on the place for me, was the general state of the room. It was dusty. very very dusty. My sister-in-law suffers with Asthama and really struggled with the cleanliness of the room.
The curtains had a layer of dust on the top and when we pulled them dust scattered over her bed. We ended pullling her bed away from the as much as possible, but it was a little late by then.
The bedside table laps were FULL of dust! you couldnt see the actual top of the bulb as the dust was that thick. The lamp shades werealso very dusty. When you turned the lamps on of off, there was a plume of dust that arose from them.
Having said that, overall I would rate our stay 7/10. if it hadnt been for the dust issues, it would have been a 9!!
As a last thought, I wouldn't let that put me off staying there again... I would just take a duster and polish witn me next time :)
Thanks to Mick and Carol for making us feel very welcome!
