As a frequent business traveller I use hotels a lot, mainly major chain brands. But as I was taking a trip for pleasure I went for something a bit different, choosing somewhere in the hope that we would recieve a service that was a bit more personal and humble. My Fiance and I had a long car journey from the South-West Coast and arrived at the hotel early evening around 19:00. The lights were out and the door was locked creating a very unwelcoming vibe from the offset. However this didn't put us off all that much and we rang the bell and awaited for service.
A male of shabby appearance, wearing an untucked, unbuttoned shirt answered the door, looked us up and down and the proceded to question " YEAH? What is it?." If it wasn't for my partner being so tired due to working early that morning I would have turned round and walked away on the spot. Check in was no better. The same man came out with our room key and banged it on the front desk with an attitude that said to me he didn't really want our custom. Given the choice and variety in Blackpool, you would think hotel staff would be more welcoming.
It didn't get any better when we entered the room. There was a stale, potent odour in the room and it immediately came across as unclean. Dog hair could be found in various places in the room and barking could be heard at various points throughout the night. However even if there were no animals present in the hotel, we still wouldn't have had a good nights sleep due to the uncomfy beds. We slept mostly clothed too as again the hotel cleanliness just wasn't up to standard.
We stayed here for the weekend for a domestic getaway but this hotel had actually made us feel bad about visiting Blackpool and we couldn't wait to leave. In conclusion the hotel owner was extremely ignorant and rude which upset my fiance. Maybe he doesn't want customers. This hotel has put me off using the smaller independant hotels, which really is a shame but at least service is consistent across all hotels in a brand.
